Context

Kessebohmer is a German family-owned manufacturer with more than 3,000 employees. Its product portfolio includes stands, racks, fittings, and furniture for kitchens and camper vans.

Objective

Build an intelligent 3D shelving configuration and ordering system that lets Kessebohmer customers design custom racks online, generate error-free specifications, and send dealer-ready orders directly to local partners. The business goal was to shorten the sales cycle.

Methodology

Our flexible RUP (Rational Unified Process) approach, combined with real-time progress tracking, gave both sides constant visibility. Continuous feedback helped clear blockers quickly and kept the project on schedule and within budget.

Challenge

Visualization errors could make customers configure racks that looked right but could not be built.

Solution Functionality

Rensai Labs built the solution around a resilient 3D rule engine that handles complex assembly logic and dealer contract constraints behind the scenes. The solution covered six key areas.

We pulled product constraints and compatibility logic out of the codebase and placed them in flexible configuration files, giving the client the freedom to handle routine catalog updates without developer involvement.

Step 1

We created precise connection points inside the 3D models and mapped them to JSON files with the assembly logic. The configurator validates every dimensional change against compatibility rules in real time, blocking invalid designs before they become a production problem.

Step 2

The system imports CSV data from the client’s ERP, breaks it down by SKU, price, and allowed configuration, and applies those rules in real time. The moment a user selects a dealer, the 3D scene reconfigures itself and hides assembly options that are not available under that contract.

Step 3

The system converts each finalized 3D configuration into a production-ready PDF dossier with dimensional drawings, calculated shelf load limits, bills of materials, and packaging data.

Step 4

Rensai Labs designed an interactive 3D room planner. Users can recreate their actual space – complete with custom dimensions, windows, doors, and obstacles – and build the shelving system directly within their virtual room.

Step 5

We designed the access model around strict role separation, ensuring that dealer pricing, contract terms, and customer data remain visible only to authorized users. HTTPS and encryption protect data exchanged with the platform.

Step 6

Key Features

A flexible admin panel and rule engine cover catalog management, 3D planning, order workflows, and global usability.

  • Flexible Admin Panel – manage product catalogs, dimensions, colors, and materials without developer support.
  • Dealer-Specific Rules – separate configurations, product availability, and contract terms for individual dealers.
  • 3D Room Customization – recreate virtual rooms with exact dimensions, including obstacles like windows, doors, and existing furniture.
  • Real-Time Cost Estimation – automatically calculate average production costs during customization.
  • CAD-Ready Handoff – export finalized configurations in OBJ and DWG formats for external design work.
  • Role-Based Access Control – strict separation of user permissions to protect pricing, rules, and dealer data.

Dual measurement systems, multi-currency support, and a fully localized multilingual interface tailor the experience to Kessebohmer’s international audience.

Results

Faster B2B Sales

Combining 3D space planning with contract-aware dealer routing eliminated the need for lengthy back-and-forth negotiations. Partners now receive pre-validated, production-ready designs, cutting the sales cycle in half.

Streamlined Pre-Production Handoff

An automated PDF engine instantly compiles precise dimensional drawings, load limits, and bills of materials (BOMs) from each user-generated design, reducing manual drafting errors and helping prevent factory delays and assembly mismatches.

Operational Independence

Moving product logic into dynamic JSON configuration files reduced developer involvement in routine catalog updates. Kessebohmer’s content team can now roll out new sizes, colors, and product rules independently, lowering ongoing maintenance costs.
